PRILOSEC ACTION MECHANISM
Prilosec belongs to class of antisecretory compounds that act as selective and irreversible proton pump inhibitor. Prilosec works by suppressing gastric acid secretion by inhibition of hydrogen–potassium adenosinetriphosphatase enzyme system, found at secretary surface of parietal cells. It inhibits final transport of hydrogen ions into gastric lumen. Prilosec inhibits both basal and stimulated acid secretion irrespective of stimulus.
PRILOSEC DOSAGE
Recommended adult oral dose of Prilosec for short-term treatment of active duodenal ulcer, reduction of risk of duodenal ulcer recurrence and gastro esophageal reflux disease and healing of erosive esophagitis is 20 mg per day. While for gastric ulcer, recommended adult oral dose of Prilosec is 40 mg per day for 4-8 weeks.
PRILOSEC ADVANTAGES
Prilosec is an effective medication indicated for short-term treatment of active duodenal ulcer and in patients with H. pylori infection or active duodenal ulcer (or up to 1 year history) to eradicate Helicobacter pylori in adults.
PRILOSEC SIDE EFFECTS
Less serious Prilosec side effects include fever, headache, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach pain or gas and symptoms of cold such as stuffy nose, sneezing or sore throat.
Adverse side effects of Prilosec include allergic reactions or hypomagnesaemia symptoms such as uneven heart rate, dizziness, confusion, muscle cramps, cough and convulsions.
