EVISTA INFORMATION
A benzothiophene class of compound, EVISTA (raloxifene hydrochloride) is a selective estrogen receptor modulator (SERM). The chemical designation is methanone, [6-hydroxy-2-(4-hydroxyphenyl) benzo[ b] thien-3-yl] -[ 4-[ 2-( 1-piperidinyl) ethoxy] phenyl]-, hydrochloride. IT is off-white to pale-yellow solid that is very slightly soluble in water. Evista is used for treatment and prevention of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women and reduction in risk of invasive breast cancer in postmenopausal women with osteoporosis.

Biological action is largely mediated through binding to estrogen receptors resulting in activation of certain estrogenic pathways, blocking others. Thereby decreasing resorption of bone and reducing biochemical markers of bone turnover to premenopausal range.
EVISTA DOSAGE
The recommended dosage is one 60 mg Evista (raloxifene hydrochloride tablets) tablet daily, which may be administered any time of day with or without food.
EVISTA ADVANTAGES
Since Evista is estrogen substitute, it has all advantages of estrogen but none of the risks. In addition to its bone-protective effect, many heart experts believe that estrogen protects the heart as well.
EVISTA SIDE EFFECTS
General Side effects include swelling, joint pain, hot flashes, leg cramps, sweating and flu-like symptoms.
